Lissy Taylor – Quiet Rage (2021)
While she might have spent her teenage years in the USA, Lissy Taylor is a Stoke-On-Trent girl with a unique voice. Merging elements of soul and indie-rock, Taylor lies somewhere between Florence Welch and Ellie Goulding. A relatively new artist in the music scene, Taylor has already gained attention from some of the biggest indie music critics. Featured on Clash Magazine, Contact Music, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and many others, the talented songstress is forging forth with an enthusiastic boldness. The latest addition to her well-received discography is ‘Quiet Rage’.
Following her debut EP Wildflowers, ‘Quiet Rage’ sees Taylor tapping in more indie-rock sounds. Merging the lusciousness of her soulful vocals with an Only Sun guitar twinge, ‘Quiet Rage’ pivots between youthful vitality, infectious guitar riffs and soothing vocals. The forceful track is not hard-hitting, but its melodic harmony of instrumentation and vocals brings a “look at me” quality.
Yes, the melody is impressive plunging you into a sonic swirl, but it is the soulfulness that makes it smooth. Touching on issues of “trapped anger and bottled-up feelings”, one would imagine a vividly aggressive song – this is not really the case. ‘Quiet Rage’ has underlying angst, but the charming softness acts as a blanket to the inner turmoil. A type of passive-aggressiveness if you will.
Showcasing her innovativeness as a singer-songwriter, Taylor uses her vocal tone to enhance the message of ‘Quiet Rage’. The soaring sound ranges from a soothing lull to outraged angst. We cannot, however, forget the sensuality of Taylor’s voice making it highly distinct and moving. Overall, ‘Quiet Rage’ is a provocative and meaningful single with stunning sophistication and maturity.
“‘Quiet Rage’ is essentially trapped anger and bottled-up feelings, not wanting to deal with emotions you hide them instead. The lyrics “I will grow, I will blossom” is the recognition of the emotional strength it takes to get through and rise.” – Lissy Taylor on ‘Quiet Rage’
In addition to her single, Lissy released an official music video for ‘Quiet Rage’. You can view the video HERE. Please note that the video uses strobe effects and can cause seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
