Lissy Taylor – Feel For Me (2023)

When we last heard singer-songwriter Lissy Taylor, she was singing about self-belief, empowerment, optimism and “having the strength the overcome whatever life throws at you…” in her single ‘Fierce’. Taking a slight shift, Taylor hits us with the single ‘Feel For Me’ where she lays bare the frustration, beauty, ecstasy and complexity of relationships – all wrapped up in an anthemic sonic package.

Over the past few years, UK-based musician Lissy Taylor has established herself as one of the more innovative acts in Manchester. Since founding her band in 2018, she has gained a reputation for energetic and genre-diverse melodies. Licking almost every flavour of rock, Taylor has shifted from her indie-pop debut single ‘Mayday’ to a harder indie-rock sound in ‘Quiet Rage’ and pop-rock in ‘Healer’. In the most recent single, ‘Feel For Me’, her harder, heavier rock side emerges.

Unlike the indie-rock single ‘Fierce’, ‘Feel For Me’ taps into alternative rock with pounding drums, crashing guitars and Taylor’s gritty vocals. Opening with a bold rush of guitar, you are immediately swept into a sonic whirlpool with instantaneous kaleidoscopic lights flitting about the swirling pool. I might compare Taylor to Foo Fighters or Queens of the Stone Age, but these are merely fleeting tinges of similarity. Bold, brash and bursting with raw power, ‘Feel For Me’ is a heart-pounding representation of every feeling in relationships – anticipation, desire, fear, frustration, anger and heartbreak.

Produced by Gareth Nuttall, ‘Feel For Me’ not only captures the intensity of emotions beneath the poetic lyricism but does so with a live show fury. Taking the sound of her live performance with mosh-pit glory to the studio-recorded single, there is an authenticity in the “lay it all out there” melody.

In addition to the single, Lissy Taylor released an official music video for ‘Feel For Me’. The video is a live recording of Taylor’s performance at the Isle of Wight Festival 2023.
