Liqueedo – 1999 (2025)
The brainchild of singer-songwriter Arturo Molinara, Liqueedo is a four-piece band offering audiences intricate, intimate, and intoxicating melodies. Inspired by iconic English musicians like Oasis, Stone Roses, Sex Pistols and The Smiths, Italian Molinara found a passion for music as a teenager. His first band, The Oceans, established him as a powerful emerging act throughout Italy; however, it is his project Liqueedo that takes our fancy. Join us as we delve into his most recent single, ‘1999’.
Born during the Covid-19 pandemic, Liqueedo is an emotional labour of love for Molinara. During this time, he reopened his draw of memories – as I’m sure many of us did – and took to heart old songs breathing new life into the existing demos. Joined by Andrea Bruno (bass), Gianmario Galano (lead guitar), and Federico Cozza (drums), the new song ‘1999’ lingers on memories of the past with a melodic force of the present.
Recorded and produced at Goldmine Records with Maurizio Sarnicola, and mastered at La Maesta Studio by Giovanni Versari, ‘1999’ is a sophisticated blend of roaring guitars, bold bass, and crashing drums. Interestingly, just as the instruments bind in a harmonic symphony with elegant production, each element shines with a separate personality making the track diverse but united.
Similar to its predecessor, ‘Out Of Nowhere’, ‘1999’ retains the link to old-school indie-rock and Britpop; however, slight tinges of 90s rock bring a heavier, harder tone to the track. Yet, just as there is a grittiness to the track – accentuated by the powerful vocals – a sense of smoothness, calm and charm slithers through the single.
Melodically, the song oscillates between dark tragedy and hopeful light – a perfect expression of the heartfelt theme and lyricism. Penned as a tribute to a friend who passed away in 1999, the sophomore single is “both a form of catharsis and a companion allowing Molinara to share his story and find comfort in the continuity it provides between the past, present and future”.
In addition to the single, Liqueedo released an official music video for ‘1999’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel. Please note this video uses rapid image transition and may trigger seizures and/or seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
