Liminal Age – 2032 (Sutures) (2021)
With their single ‘Daydreams’, Liminal Age had us floating on a wave of nostalgia as they merged the old with the new. Now, they are taking listeners on a journey of love lost and finding their way back to the people who care about them the most in ‘2032 (Sutures)’. An intense single, it continues the merging sound of the band while hitting you with a touch of lo-fi and synth-rock.
The intensity of the single comes from the collaborations of Mason Paris and Annie Schutz who are two of the core members of the band. This intensity was mirrored by the weather that rocked the outside of the studio as the last vocals were being recorded. Packed with some upbeat energy and the ferocity of the vocals, the single is sure to sweep you off your feet while helping you find a home for your emotions.
The sound samples that open ‘2032 (Sutures)’ give way to a plucky yet moving melodic flow. The guitars wash over the popping electronic tones for an interesting textured soundscape. As the music washes over you, it rises in power and draws you to the flashing lights of the synths. The music has a richness that comes from the complex layering of sound that leads to an exhale when the vocals enter. Resting in the lower levels, there is a glittering flow of tones that laps through your senses throughout the single.
While the melody is a textured and rich wash, the vocals are almost conversational in their movement. Paris’ vocals open the track as he remembers moments from the past. Schutz’s vocals meet his performance to echo the depths of the music through the vocal performance. As they each take a part of the lyrics, they consider love lost and the steps we all take to overcome this.
