Lethia’s Natorium – Sorry No Longer Cuts It (2022)

When a toxic relationship ends, there are often many things that are left unsaid. This is something that Pena, the singer and songwriter of Lethia’s Natorium, understands and has personal experience of. Through the band’s single ‘Sorry No Longer Cuts It’, she writes an emotionally charged letter to a toxic ex, unleashing everything she felt during the relationship.

While talking about the relationship from her point of view, there is something deeper to the overall catharsis of the track that makes it relatable to every listener. Following her studio project The Angry Ukulele Lady, Pena is joined by a group of session musicians for this new musical project. Having received positive reactions to her last project, she was filled with the courage to step into the spotlight of this band.

The combination of soft vocalisations and warbling notes that open ‘Sorry No Longer Cuts It’ capture your senses from the first second. There is an untold softness and depth to the melody that has you drifting in through the opening verses. This creates a musical space where introspection is made easy and you can really soak up the power of the vocals. As you head into the chorus, there is a slightly more aggressive push that rises from the depths of the music. This creates a fantastic emphasis for the chorus that makes you want to shout out with Pena. The rise and fall of the melody through the verses and chorus is stunning and really delicately handled. This movement mimics the turbulence of emotion and the healing that comes after the end of a toxic relationship.

While the melody rises and falls with softness, delicacy and a touch of aggression, Pena’s vocals are an emotive masterpiece. Across the opening verse, her voice enters with a tender brush against your skin, while the lyrics tell a sad tale of being unable to do anything right in the eyes of someone you care about. There is a bone-deep sadness woven into her performance that slowly pulls back the curtain of the other’s behaviour. As the push of aggression rises in the melody, her performance rises to meet it with a catchy chorus. This is a fantastically captivating performance that grips something deep in your chest, freeing you from negative emotions and helping you unleash everything you wish you could say to the toxic people in your own life.

Delicate, catchy, deep and cathartic, ‘Sorry No Longer Cuts It’ by Lethia’s Natorium is an emotive rollercoaster that touches something deep inside and unleashes everything you wish you could say. The melody moves from tender softness to a slightly aggressive edge that makes the push of the chorus even better. Pena’s vocals are stunning as she infuses so much emotion into each word and helps you let go of the negativity of toxic people in your life.
