Lenox Hills – I Feel It Coming On (2020)

Fusing the intimacy of Coldplay with the power of Oasis and the infectiousness of Dodgy, US-based Lenox Hills shares their breed of upbeat indie-rock. Formed by vocalist/guitarist Luke Mullin, guitarist Packy Mullin, bassist Kameron Dunn and drummer Kyle Swenson, the Tennessee natives meld youthful wistfulness with mature melodies. The latest addition to their evolving and growing discography is the single ‘I Feel It Coming On’. Oh yes, just if you’re wondering, Luke and Packy Mullin are related.

Following their genre-bending four-track EP Names, Lenox Hills embrace youthful buoyancy with a sense of lightheartedness in their new release. Known for their introspective lyricism, ‘I Feel It Coming On’ is poignantly reflective but with elements of optimism. More indie rock-influenced than the blues meets alt-rock Names, ‘I Feel It Coming On’ showcases their versatility as a group. While the new single does have an upbeat nature, the lyricism teeters on the line between seriousness and heartwarming hopefulness. Melodic and effortless, the harmony between the guitars, drums and Mullin’s unique vocals ooze refinement. It’s true, there is a grittiness to the track, but Mullin eloquently guides the listener along with his honest lyricism.

“It’s a song about being young and being able to enjoy having a few responsibilities. Everyone in the band has really been searching for that feeling since coronavirus hit the States back in March. ‘I Feel It Coming On’ really helped get through those tough times by reminding us that things will be normal again someday. We felt it was really important for us to write a feel-good song for our first song back because we wanted to help people feel good again.” – Lenox Hills on ‘I Feel It Coming On’.

A lot of long sentences with fancy adjectives could be used to describe both Lenox Hills and ‘I Feel It Coming On’, but the lads’ sound is ultimately sincere and elegant. They are a sheen of pure gold amidst a river of dark, turbulent water.
