Lenax – Inversion (2023)
Self-described as “cosmic horror fuelled nightmares”, US-based band Lenax weave a unique brand of metal about your souls ensnaring your senses with each massive musical beat. Not literal metal, of course; but considering the forcefulness of their ferocious melodies, you might as well be held in a sonic metal cage – then again, the intoxication of the alluring music will immerse you in a pool of tumultuous delight.
Initially formed as a solo project in 2022 by vocalist and guitarist Venomous, Lenax soon evolved into a group offering Venomous fresh perspectives, enhanced creativity, the chance to perform live, and pushing the restraints of metal genres. Joined by Profana (drums) and The Silence (bass), the band not only garnered a following with confident shows but reached far beyond their US borders enchanting audiences across the globe. This is my introduction to Lenax, so join me as I delve into their single ‘Inversion’.
Taken off their 2023 EP Purity, ‘Inversion’ is somewhat indescribable. Plunging directly into Profana’s crashing drums, The Silence and Hephaestus’ bold bass, and Venomous’ scorching guitar, it is a melodic hurricane whipping you about in a frenzied rage of dark torment.
Tossed from pillar to post with reckless abandon, you both glide and move in a jilted manner across the chaotic soundscape. Add Venomous’ hard-hitting screams with a breath-taking thrill, and you find harmonic mindlessness within the somewhat uncertain thrash of metal. An abrupt end leaves you stunned with a “what the hell was that” sentiment, as well as a sense of profoundness lurking in its rage.
“This is the first song of our EP, one that starts off the listener’s journey with a dream quest to an alternate universe where all laws are inverted, even the stars shine darkness…” – Lenax on ‘Inversion’
In addition to the single, Lenax released an official lyric video for ‘Inversion’. The video can be viewed below or on Lenax’s YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
