Lena Minder – Stolen Love (2021)
Heartache is something that we have all had to deal with at some point. While universal, this feeling can be difficult to ease and soothe which is where Lena Minder comes in with her single ‘Stolen Love’. Through the blended sounds of the track, she helps to ease heartache while considering the irony of blaming someone else for the pain being felt and the end of a relationship.
Bringing a touch of humour to heartache, she merges this with a touch of gospel, retro-soul and folk. Drawing on her experience releasing music under the moniker Liv Summer, Minder started work on her debut album under her real name last year. Experimenting with sounds has led her to the fusion of tones that dominates this single and gives you an interesting glimpse into what she has for us in the future.
‘Stolen Love’ taps and shivers into your ears with a folky feeling. There is a subdued feeling to the melody that has you relaxing into the soundscape. The easy vibes of the opening meet the guitar line that wafts through your senses like a gentle breeze off the ocean. It is a very soft melody that allows the vocals to really shine. While second to the vocals, the melody slowly builds as the single progresses and rises like the sun cresting over the horizon.
Against the light movements of the melody, Minder’s vocals ate a gentle caress. She effortlessly pulls you close and leans against your shoulder as she speaks the lyrics to you. There is an interesting movement to her performance that edges between spoken word and singing before gliding on air currents for a melodic swirl. The gentleness of the melody is picked up by her performance to ease the jagged edges of heartache. While soothing, there is an ironic humour laced into the lyrics that you should look out for. This adds a little something extra to the track that is just wonderful.

The melody is a soft touch on the hard edges of your heart that melts the pain from it. Her vocals carry the softness of the melody while the lyrics have a touch of humour to put a small smile on your face.
