Left On Read – Making The Moment Count (2024)
While Left On Read technically began performing as a band in 2020, the Irish lads were already stoking the fire in jam sessions entirely oblivious to what was in store. When the world was closing down because of pandemic lockdowns, Steven Tynan (vocals, guitar and keys), Jack Reeves (lead guitar) and Adam Reeves (drums) turned to songwriting as the newly formed Left On Read. Skip ahead a few years and the Limerick natives were awarded Creative Ireland’s ‘Made In Limerick’ grant (allowing them to record their debut album), received the 2022 Dolores O’Riordan Music Award, and are constantly growing their following with charismatic melodies. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Making The Moment Count’.
Following the critically acclaimed single ‘IDK’, ‘Making The Moment Count’ is Left On Read’s second step into 2024. Similar to ‘IDK’, the new single has a lingering indie-rock tone however ‘Making The Moment Count’ weaves contemporary indie-rock with a nostalgic rush of old-school funk-rock. One might compare Left On Read to Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars or Funkadelic, but the trio are standing tall as pioneering rockers filling that gaping niche in modern-day funk.
Listening to Left On Read’s ‘Making The Moment Count’ is like being swept away to a sonic forest filled with colourful fairy lights. Bold drums crash across with a silvery glow, while the searing guitar brings a bright red shimmer, and Tynan’s vocals enhance the upbeat attitude binding everything in a bright gold thread as you continue dancing. Interestingly, while the melody oozes joy, humour, optimism and a blast of fun, there is a juxtaposition between happiness and profound despair. Tynan explains, “It’s a break-up song… More so about break-up sex to be honest. I guess sort of a last hurrah for the time spent together…”
