LearningToDive – You Said It Best (2021)

Having passed our virtual desk a couple of times before, LearningToDive is a soothing artist we cannot ignore. The solo project of New Zealand-based producer and musician Bravo Bonez, LearningToDive (LTD) has a unique and distinctive sound. Receiving coverage from Vents Mag, Obscure Sound, A&R Factory, At The Barrier and many more, LTD is building a following on all continents – or at least the habitable continents. Although who knows, penguins and polar bears may be into LTD’s music. The latest addition to his well-received repertoire is ‘You Said It Best’.

Following his 11-track debut album Norwegian Pop, ‘You Said It Best’ is a smooth, soft and languid experimental single. Incorporating elements of alternative pop, dream pop and undertones of folk, the new track has a haziness about it. As if walking barefoot through a misty forest, ‘You Said It Best’ is mystic with a slight ethereal tone. Yet, amidst the surreal sensation, LTD’s rich, bold vocals act as an anchor steering you away from the haunting figures.

Alright, the atmosphere may suggest a fog of confusion but ‘You Said It Best’ is an inspirational, uplifting and heartwarming single. Touching on issues of self-acceptance, empowerment and selflessness, the track connects with listeners on a deeper level. Telling the tale of an individual who left his family with the aim of chasing an “ultimate dream” but realised he is happier away from the “selfish, isolated life” that accompanies the chase. Yet, while there is an understanding of the positive aspects related to reconnecting with loved ones, he acknowledges the fear of making changes – a highly relatable tale for most people nowadays.

In addition to his single, LearningToDive released an official music video for ‘You Said It Best’. Unfortunately, the video has image transitions and lighting effects that can cause migraines or seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Watch at your own discretion.
