Lauren Ann – WHEN THE PARTY ENDS (2024)
With only one year of songwriting experience, singer-songwriter Lauren Ann signed with Faction Records on the same day she finished high school. Intriguing, inspiring and amazing, it’s the “oh wow, that’s so cool” factor burning bright. Should I stop there? Be astounded at that achievement? Of course not! Particularly when the Belfast-based musician has so much to offer.
Following her well-received single ‘BITE’, Lauren Ann releases her new single, ‘WHEN THE PARTY ENDS’. The third track off her upcoming EP Devour – an exploration into the Seven Deadly Sins – ‘WHEN THE PARTY ENDS’ relates to pride. Lauren Ann explains:
“When I wrote it, I didn’t really think of the Seven Deadly Sins, but I feel now that it fits in very well with that theme and how one’s pride affects everyone around them. It’s about knowing someone who was once very humble but has… become prideful and arrogant through their success in life. I wrote it based on my own experiences in the industry, especially this one person who let their fame get to their head… it’s one thing to be proud of your accomplishments… but it becomes toxic when it turns into a feeling that those around you are inferior.”
The concept of the Seven Deadly Sins carries the core theme of Devour, but it is the intimate narrative that keeps me intrigued. Recorded and produced at Start Together Studios with Rocky O’Reilly, ‘WHEN THE PARTY ENDS’ leans toward a 90s pop-rock sound. The concoction of pounding drums, a bold bass, a searing guitar and Ann’s gritty vocals, there is a forceful arrogance to the song. Yet, ‘WHEN THE PARTY ENDS’ is more than an angsty rage of chaos, there is a duality with vulnerability, fragility and subdued fear lying beneath the surface.
Sentimental, honest, insightful and innovative, Lauren Ann showcases professionalism, understanding and sophistication beyond her years. I’m eager to hear more from this natural talent and cannot wait for her upcoming EP.
