Laura Brizuela – O.Y.O. (2021)
Inspired by a night out with her friends, Laura Brizuela is unleashing her opinion in ‘O.Y.O.’. With a catchy and energetic flow, the single offers a quite feminist view on girls being hit on by guys while on a night out. Drawing on her own experience of random guys acting like they can make any girl theirs, she brings a hit of attitude to her point of view.
A rising pop star, Brizuela creates songs that are easy to connect with as they draw on experiences we have all faced or know about. While she has been featured on several electronic music projects, she started her solo career last year and is fast gaining traction. Creating all her music in her home studio, she has been releasing new music every 6 weeks.
The bassline draws you into ‘O.Y.O.’ with a party vibe. The low levels of the music are all night out with friends while the higher levels are a glimmering shiver. These layers meet later in the single to form a neon light bop that makes you think of cocktail lounges and having fin with your friends. There is a wonderful shimmer to the music that is so easy to listen to while boosting the vocals.
Brizuela’s vocals have a subtle vocal dance feeling to them as they get you moving to the rhythm of the track. There is a really dynamic movement to her performance as she bounces to the beats they rise for an ethereal flow. Through all of this, she calls out random people who hit on others in clubs with a subtle dig. The lyrics perfectly detail the experience of the track while highlighting her feeling about it. The flow of the vocals and melody combine for an easy listening experience that you move your head to.
