Larry Karpenko – Fare The Well (2025)
It was only yesterday that we discovered the soulful sounds of singer-songwriter Larry Karpenko. We delved into his discography and found evocative insight, emotional profoundness, and all put together with a charming melodic flair. Yesterday, and seriously it was yesterday, the US-based musician offered solace, acceptance, and comfort with the pop-inspired single ‘Heart Calls Love’. Today, we jump headfirst into his new single, ‘Fare Thee Well’.
Following the aforementioned ‘Heart Calls Love’, listening to ‘Fare The Well’ is like diving into a sonic well, then sliding down its kaleidoscopic walls of pinks, blues, yellows and greens – think an anime style sliding into a new world. If you’re not into anime, then consider this similar to Alice’s falling into Wonderland, but without the panic. Brushes of synth-driven dream pop meld with a wave of alternative pop, a peek of folk, and a touch of indie-pop creating an almost palpable sense of perfumed tranquillity.
While the keyboards, piano and guitar twirl in a melodic haze of joviality where you lose yourself entirely, ‘Fare The Well’ is rather poignant, profound and serious in its composition. Inspired by the loss of Karpenko’s beloved friend Sharlene, ‘Fare The Well’ is a dedication to her spirit celebrating her life. Karpenko explains:
“’Fare The Well’ bids goodbye to love found, then lost. It takes the listener into a poetic journal of young love, longing, and divine companionship, only for life to unfold in ways that many find unbearable – the pain of love separated… Despite the pain, in a hopeful sentiment that exemplifies strength and resilience of the human condition, the subject wishes their loved one well in an emotional parting.”
While this review, hopefully, captures something of Karpenko’s ‘Fare Thee Well’, it remains merely that, a review.
