LaRegina – people pleaser (2023)

Pushing the boundaries of genres without abandon, German singer-songwriter LaRegina stands tall as an artist completely undefinable. Traipsing from blues to reggae, pop to soul, LaRegina embraces all sounds in an inspirational, intriguing and intoxicating way. Fascinated by the soulful vocals of Toni Braxton, LaRegina dreamed of being a professional single and once she hit her young adulthood, she had participated in various band projects – everything contributing to her unique sound. For a short time, she lost interest in music; however, her motivation increased in 2013 when LaRegina rediscovered her confidence and began composing original material. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘people pleaser’.

Inspired by humanity in its entirety, LaRegina makes music to move, resonate and promote individualism, diversity and uniqueness. In her single ‘people pleaser’, she continues to boldly remind us that you can’t please everyone, but you can be happy accepting yourself.

“While writing the lyrics and melodies of ‘people pleaser’, I wanted to create a song which supports the positive and energetic riddim and still providing an empowering but easy-going message so that everyone can find their own story within the song… You can be a people pleaser in so many different settings: you can please your partner, your family, your boss or even society. The message of the song is being authentic, it is okay to say “no” now and then, disagreeing doesn’t make you a bad person just an authentic one. Also, it’s okay not to be liked all the time…” – LaRegina on ‘people pleaser’

Following her collaborative single ‘Penny For Your Thoughts’ (featuring Shon gbrl), LaRegina uses her distinctive reggae meets pop sound in ‘people pleaser’. Bringing a strong Jamaican feel to our ears, the upbeat riddim creates a kaleidoscopic toe-tapping bubble reminiscent of Bob Marley. Easily twirling about in hazy reggae, LaRegina increases the smile-inducing vibe with her warm, rich vocals. She caresses you with her dulcet tones as you are sent reeling through the soundscape.

Uplifting and optimistic in its sunshine-slathered sound, ‘people pleaser’ is also optimistic and cheerful in its poetic lyricism. With completely German lyrics, as this is the German version of ‘people pleaser’, I have no idea what LaRegina is saying but it doesn’t matter. The message of acceptance and chilled-out individuality bursts through even though it’s in a language I don’t understand. The English version of ‘people pleaser’ will be available on July 14, 2023, however, I think I’ll have a soft spot for the German version. Sometimes, feeling the message transcends knowing what the musician’s saying.
