Kris James – Home (2022)

After several years of joining and leaving bands, Kris James was already sharing his natural musical talent with the world albeit as part of a group. Following a series of “almost there” and near misses, James found himself performing as a solo artist making his way without the safety net of a band. Since then, we have seen him grow from a small local independent artist to a singer-songwriter touring with award-winning artists like Anastasia and Will Young. Described by Sunday Express as “full of self-assurance and maturity”, Kris James is sophisticated, confident and a shining sonic gem. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Home’.

Following his disco-inspired pop song ‘The Way You Move’, James takes a contrary route with the slower, smoother, but just as inspiring track ‘Home’. Showcasing his versatile musicality, ‘Home’ has an acoustic quality with a moving piano dominating the single; however, it is not the piano that turns my head. Sure, it is an important aspect, but it is James’ rich vocals alongside a gospel choir that really pushes its warm, charming and tender nature.

Rich, full-bodied and robust, ‘Home’ has a cosy sound that prompts a feeling to “go home” – and the poetic lyricism pushes this concept. Kris James explains that the song tries to “…capture the feeling of having that special person in your life, the one that you know will always be there for you, who makes everything worthwhile. For those lucky enough, the thing that makes a house a home is the person or people in it, not the place itself. This song is about how seeing that person can feel like coming home…”

Sincere, sentimental, reflective and genuine, ‘Home’ is a song that we can all appreciate.
