KOTC Clan – Perreando DemBow (2023)

Dembow, a form of reggaeton, may not have made it as an individual genre in its early years but that does not mean it is gone forever. Pioneers in the field, KOTC Clan (Kings Of The Clout Clan) carve out a niche in the modern-day trap meets reggae sound brimming to the surface with evolutionary dembow. A collective of international rappers, instrumentalists and singers, KOTC Clan are one of the global music innovators combining sounds from Nigeria and Argentina to the USA and the Caribbean. Led by main members KOTC Drew, KOTC Vibe, KOTC Gamal, and KOTC Zafiro, the KOTC Clan is a soulful force of music.

Following the pop-tinged single ‘Baddie Wine’, KOTC Clan bring a sharper, brasher, dancehall beat to ‘Perreando DemBow’. If we really had to categorise the single, it might fall into the electropop genre; however, there is so much more to ‘Perreando DemBow’ than bold beats and toe-tapping pop flows. A bite of North African percussion fuses with electronic beats creating a heartbeat to the tune. The thing is, just as the melody pushes you to the dancefloor, it is the lead vocals that get your hips shaking.

Unlike ‘Baddie Wine’ and ‘Let Me See You Twerk’, ‘Perreando DemBow’ is performed entirely in Spanish. No offence to English but, for me at least, this Latin influence tips the scale to a sexier sound. The vocals lure you to the dancefloor and flutter through you as you are propelled to dance – and the lyricism is just as sensual.

Co-produced by music band KOTC Clan and KOTC Gamal, the song praises beautiful women and their hypnotic twerking (perreando) to intoxicate listeners. Perfectly composed to match the sensual dancing, even Shakira would shake her hips alongside KOTC Clan.
