Kissing The Flint – All We Can Do (2025)

Far more than what you see (or rather hear) on the surface, Kissing The Flint takes complex issues and layers it in genre-diverse melodies. Now, I’m not talking about those tragic themes like disillusion, despair, conflict and turmoil; nah, I’m talking about the happier, triumphant times of empowerment, resilience, and optimistic joviality. Not one to ignore the darker things, but eager to make your day a little brighter in her “cutting through the fakery…” attitude, Kissing The Flint takes you on magical sonic journeys sharing the love.

Following the well-received EP Standing On The Fringe of Rooms, award-winning singer-songwriter Leah Chynoweth-Tidy – the brain behind Kissing The Flint – releases her new single, ‘All We Can Do’. Recorded, arranged and produced by Huey Dowling, with mastering by Ben Findlay, ‘All We Can Do’ is the sonic representation of that “keep calm and carry on” phrase. Chynoweth-Tidy explains:

“’All We Can Do’ reflects on how we all have the ability and strength within ourselves to push through and soldier on, even when our days feel darkest. When we feel like mere spectators of our own lives, standing on the outside looking in and fearing that we’re losing control over our destiny, try to remember that all is not lost. Ride the rolling stone and believe that the light is waiting for you up ahead to banish the shadows, if you can only hold on to hope.”

Shifting from the hard-hitting kick of hard rock in ‘Gunslinger Love’, ‘All We Can Do’ subdues the heavier rock tone offering a rock-inspired ballad. Drums pulsate in the back, while a dynamic guitar travels across the tune alongside a bold bass; however, it is the piano that seems to take the cake in ‘All We Can Do’. Flitting from prominent fore to shimmering backing, its soothing presence offers a softer edge to the track. Yet, as much as the song slows down the pace, Kissing The Flint reminds us of her weighty classic/hard rock identity with a ripping guitar solo.

Harmonic and charming, confident and uplifting, bold but with softness oozing in Chynoweth-Tidy’s vocals, ‘All We Can Do’ is the song you blast from your speakers after a hard day reminding you to keep on keeping on.
