Kids In Decay – Cue The Cronies (2025)

Described as “…music for the lost, the searching, the ones who feel everything too deeply”, US-based group Kids In Decay is one to connect, resonate, and immerse audiences in profound melodies with poignant lyricism. An exciting and, well, rather loud fusion of hard rock, progressive metal, and melodic metal, Kids In Decay are not a mere psychedelic twinkle, but the loud, hard-hitting sound reverberating through your soul and stealing it at the same time. Join us as we lose ourselves in one their most recent singles, ‘Cue The Cronies’.

Following the well-received single ‘Dark Tetrad’, ‘Cue The Cronies’ is another Kids In Decay tune wriggling into your ear and sticking in your brain. Along with ‘Dark Tetrad’, ‘Cue The Cronies’ is one of the tracks off the band’s album, Breaking Radio Silence; however, it appears to be one of the “softer” singles as compared to ‘Parallel Thought’ or ‘Parallel Limb’. Yet, while the track in question might be easier on the ear for non-metal fans – soon to be converted by Kids In Decay – it retains the glimmer of hard rock, classic rock and melodic metal, which is lacking in tracks like ‘Need’.

So, now let’s take a listen to ‘Cue The Cronies’. Inspired by the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Porcupine Tree, and Pink Floyd, Kids In Decay’s sound is “built on heavy guitars, electronic beats, and orchestral elements…” – all evident in the intriguing ‘Cue The Cronies’. In its vibrancy, the single is more than a song to be heard but an all-consuming sonic experience.

As if setting off on a journey through sonic forest, ‘Cue The Cronies’ opens with a hazy swooning of dynamic guitars – a swirl quietly pooling at your feet in what you know will be dark intensity. Quickly, a crescendo with crashing drums and bold bass drags you into a mire of murky water, the dynamic guitars quickly shifting from a lingering wisp to scorching waves. Tossed about the tumultuous sonic waves, it’s a gritty setting, but kaleidoscopic lines glimmer in the water – think one of gut-wrenching, heart-pounding drag out into the open ocean.

Creepy, eerie and mildly terrifying, ‘Cue The Cronies’ engulfs you with a wash of hard-hitting melodic metal; however, there is one anchor to keep you above water – the vocals. Gritty and grungy but with warm sincerity and tenderness, the vocals bind everything, offering you solace in the haunting.
