Kid Jupiter – Tennis Eyes (2020)

Described by BBC 6 Radio’s Tom Robinson, Kid Jupiter‘s new single is “brave and beautiful”. But before we explore the new single, let’s get a bit of an idea of who Kid Jupiter is. Combining their musical talents, the awesome UK indie-rock quintet use a plethora of styles to cover a range of conceptual content. Moving on from their upbeat ‘Superglue’ (which we reviewed here), ‘Tennis Eyes’ sees the more vulnerable and softer side of Laurence Morgan (vocals), Tom Ford (guitar), Stephen Davies (keys), Luke Deacon (bass) and Archie Wolfman (drums).

A sonic representation of fragility and innocence, ‘Tennis Eyes’ combines soothing melodies with heartfelt lyricism. Simplicity is the name of the game with this new single showing the clarity of each instrument alongside Morgan’s delicate, haunting vocals. While the track has a similarity to the richness of Hozier in the vocals department, it is the harmonic soundscape that makes Kid Jupiter a modern indie mammoth.

Known for insightful songs with emotive engagement, Kid Jupiter captivates audiences with the sincerity and honesty of ‘Tennis Eyes’. Despite the track exploring sombre and heartbreaking themes, the lads once again encapsulate you in a warm, comforting blanket of sound.
