Kevin Walsh – Not A Dry Eye In The House (2023)
When we last left singer-songwriter Kevin Walsh, we had our heads turned with Walsh’s debut single ‘Embrace The World’. Released in April 2022, the single was a melodic sense of hope for autism awareness. As a child, Irish artist Walsh was a “non-verbal autistic child with an eating disorder and intense social anxiety”; today, he stands proud as the voice of autism with dramatic performances, theatrical attitudes, and providing solace to others with mental health conditions.
While Kevin Walsh entered the world as an isolated loner living in a world of his own, it was the larger-than-life Meat Loaf shoving him into a bigger world with the “never ever quit” attitude. A self-taught instrumentalist earning a First Class Honors Degree in Music and giving a platform to Autism Awareness, Walsh brings a sense of classical artistry to a flamboyant rock persona. The latest addition to his discography is a tip of the hat to Meat Loaf with a cover of ‘Not A Dry Eye In The House’.
Joining Canadian producer Taylor Harris, Walsh’s interpretation of ‘Not A Dry Eye In The House’ is as vibrant as the original but with a unique flair. Unlike Meat Loaf’s iconic growl that carries the rock opera, Walsh finds a line between classical and rock in his cover. The all-encompassing wall of sound surrounds listeners; however, amidst the bold swirl of sound, his trained tenor is a shining sliver of light navigating a darker soundscape. Accompanied by the soaring vocals of Joey Clarkson, Luna Olivia Avery and Marie Conniffe, each tone weaves together in the symphonic cacophony of cinematic sound.
Meat Loaf’s version of ‘Not A Dry Eye In The House’ exudes a melancholic depth of dramatic despair flooded with raw rock; however, there is sincerity in the sentimental piece. Walsh picks up on the elaborate sincerity, but the tweaks of classical and hard rock make it masterful.
