Kevin the Persian – Rock Is Dead (2022)

If you are a fan of rock, you are going to love Kevin the Persian’s ode to the genre ‘Rock is Dead’. Extremely intense, the single pays tribute to old-school rock while lamenting the idea that this style has died. Packed with the best elements of retro rock, alternative rock and hard rock, he adds a splash of metal in the build-up to a really fantastic solo.

This hard rock musician draws on his own life-long love of rock for this track as the verses mourn its death, before the chorus glorifies the sound. Letting all of us know that sometimes a good rock song is all we need to take away the woes of the world, he will have you playing this song on repeat. His love of the genre shines through each note and will take any fellow rock lover to stunning heights.

‘Rock is Dead’ thrums to life with a heavy guitar line that is joined by an engaging drum. They come together to get you moving to their sound and soaking up some pure rock vibes. You can hear little bits of old-school rock woven into the melody, but the pure fusion of all the different styles makes something wonderfully new. There is something about the music that sinks its talons into your chest and yanks you into the movement. The trill of the guitar that follows the first chorus refrain is absolutely stunning and you might feel the urge to turn the music back just to hear it again. While this is a highlight, the music doesn’t let up for a second with the pulse of the guitar vibrating through your chest throughout the track and the drums infusing energy into your muscles. In the second half of the track, there is a bit of restraint in the melody that slowly starts to build back into that frenzy of rock ecstasy.

The flow of the melody perfectly matches the tale of the lyrics. Kevin has done a fantastic job of turning the feeling of rock dying as the years progressed, into a really engaging story. His vocals have this curl that captures the best elements of smooth rock. Through the opening verse he introduces the idea that rock is dead, in fact, he clearly states that rock has been killed. He then taps into the nostalgia of hearing rock as a young person and finding something to connect with. Anyone who loves rock music will be able to connect with this track on a really personal level. While a lament at the death of rock, there is a glimmer of hope in the latter parts of the track.

Grabbing everything that makes rock magical, Kevin the Persian pays tribute to the style while lamenting the death of old-school rock and offering a glimmer of hope in ‘Rock is Dead’. The melody is awash with the best elements of rock that have been fused together for an intense but extremely enjoyable sound. His vocals curl around an imagery-rich tale as he connects with anyone who loves this style of music.
