Ken Holt – Shine (2025)
Singer-songwriter Ken Holt discovered a passion for music early in life as he grasped the various influences surrounding him; from Duane Allman and Dickey Betts to the gospel-laden melodies of his Uncle Henry, Holt pulled on a natural talent for moving music. For decades, as part of the band The Blend and as a solo artist, the US-based Holt stirred this passion in audiences sharing the stage with ZZ Top, The Who, and Hall & Oates. Yet, it is not his past that drew us to his music; it is his present celebration of life, love and humanity woven into beautiful songs.
Holt continues to share his confident performances with audiences, but it is over a decade after his single ‘Eyes Wide Open’ that he returns to releasing music – at least, according to Spotify. Entering 2025 with the full-length album Shades Of Light, Holt binds everything that he is, was and plans to be in a celebrated 11 tracks. When speaking of Shades Of Light, Holt explains:
“This album reflects where I’ve been and where I hope to go… It’s a culmination of everything I’ve experienced – faith, family, and the power of music to bring people together.”
The single ‘Shine’ – the song we’re about to jump into – delicately captures the core of his celebration of life. Drawing from the depths of the Covid-19 lockdowns, Ken Holt reminds each one thing we can do, even when the chips are down, is to shine brightly. Recorded and produced by Holt at Little Man Studio, ‘Shine’ is a shimmering sonic tapestry laced with soaring guitars, bold drums, a cheeky mandolin (courtesy of Frank Sanzone), and powerful piano slicing through the glittering symphony.
Melodically, ‘Shine’ is a harmonic country music masterpiece soothing the soul with its charming flow; however, it is Holt’s vocals that enhance the smoothness and intimate connection. Profound and weighty, the poetic lyrics hold your hand intricately sharing a powerful message with a subdued sound.
Sincere, sentimental and brimming with honesty, ‘Shine’ sets brings out the sun, sets a grin on your face, and leaves with comforting warmth.
