Kelsie Kimberlin – Walking Away (2025)
One of the most intriguing artists to reach our ears in recent years, Kelsie Kimberlin has quickly become a favourite at The Other Side Reviews. Not only are we fascinated, but this prolific musician turns heads internationally touring extensively, featuring on various media outlets, and collaborating with Grammy award winners. From hyper-pop fancies to indie-rock attitude and soul-stirring pop-punk, the US-based songstress flits across various genres in her eclectic style. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Walking Away’.
Following her well-received 2024 songs ‘It’s Not The Time’ and ‘Twinkle’, ‘Walking Away’ is Kimberlin’s first release of 2025. Shifting from a pop-induced flurry of music, the new single leans toward a heavier, harder and more powerful flood of alternative rock. Reminiscent of 90s rock music, hints of Goo Goo Dolls fuse with Third Eye Blind; however, all an undercurrent in a sound that belongs exclusively to Kelsie Kimberlin.
One of the more intriguing elements of ‘Walking Away’ is the hard-hitting intimacy of mellifluous music with a simultaneous spine-chilling aspect that lingers in its sincerity. Perhaps it is the simplicity of the soundscape – a melding of piano and strings – ‘Walking Away’ oozes something…well, something reaching into your heart, grasping your breath and sending tingles down your arms. A song that leaves you thinking, “damn, what the hell, that was far too much in a soft bubble of sound.”
The melody itself is fascinating, but Kimberlin’s hushed vocals combined with the tender tune up the skin-chilling ante. She explains:
“Too many people are living in abusive relationships where they feel stuck forever for a variety of reasons, so I wanted to give them a voice and hopefully the courage to finally just walk away. Life is way too short and too precious to live it subjected to negativity and control. I hope this song and video empowers people to look out for themselves and their own mental health.”
In addition to the single, Kimberlin released an official music video for ‘Walking Away’. You can view the video below and on her YouTube channel.
