Kelsie Kimberlin – Sally (2025)
Quickly becoming one of our favourite musicians, singer-songwriter Kelsie Kimberlin not only constantly delivers astounding music, but weaves profound themes into the songs. Understanding the delicate interplay of poignant depth and moving melody, the US-based artist is just that – an artist. With her sonic palette, she melds various genres with a “not to be pigeonholed” effect. The latest addition to her critically acclaimed discography is the single ‘Sally’.
Following her well-received singles, ‘Walking Away’ and ‘It’s Not The Time’, Kimberlin crafts a mish-mash of vintage and modern-day indie-pop with ‘Sally’. Soaring guitars meet crashing drums, while a bold bass slinks along the background. Oddly brash and abrupt, ‘Sally’ has a tint of grittiness; however, soothing mellifluousness gives a laidback vibe to a complex melody. Add Kimberlin’s warm vocals, and it’s like having a conversation with a good friend clearing away and darkness in tragic events.
Melodically, ‘Sally’ oscillates between desperate vulnerability and resilient strength in the intricate arrangement. Continuing this ebb-and-flow – or rather the core of its rippling waves – the lyricism of ‘Sally’ delves into intimate human emotion. Kimberlin explains:
“I have known many girls who have had mental health challenges after a tragic family event, and I have tried to understand how those who rose above the challenge not only survived but thrived. With ‘Sally’, I am using an amazing song to let them know that leaning on a loved one for support can help move from self-destruction to self-esteem…”
Hard-hitting and weighty, ‘Sally’ is one of those tracks that make you stop, think about the words, and feel bowled over by its weightiness. On the other hand, it’s also a fun, infectious song with an intriguing tale. Whatever you feel, ‘Sally’ is another triumph for Kelsie Kimberlin.
In addition to the single, Kimberlin released an official music video for ‘Sally’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel.
