Kelsey Montanez – Infinite Bloom (2024)

With sweet eyes, an adorable smile and an “oh, she’s so cute” demeanour, Kelsey Montanez oozes innocence and bubbly charm; however, something louder, energetic and rebellious lurks beneath. Easily placed alongside the likes of Robert Plant and Amy Winehouse with the spark of iconic Freddie Mercury, Montanez brings an eclectic, inimitable and unforgettable presence to the music scene. While the US-based singer-songwriter began reaching ears on an international scale with her 2022 pop debut ‘Everything Is Fine’, she was already an established artist honing her sound and working with notable industry professionals. Today, she catches our ears once again with her latest single ‘Infinite Bloom’.

Following her well-received singles ‘Mr. Crybaby’ and ‘Rolling Stone’, Montanez enters 2024 with ‘Infinite Bloom’. Constantly tapping into various genres, ‘Infinite Bloom’ shifts from the pop-inspired ‘Mr. Crybaby’ and jazzy ‘Rolling Stone’ to an energetic pop-rock sound. Leaning toward the earlier sounds of Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Weezer, Good Charlotte and McFly, there is a flood of nostalgia travelling through ‘Infinite Bloom’. Yet, while she transcends time and generations, a modern-day contemporariness exists drawing together fresh and familiar.

Energetic and enthusiastic, ‘Infinite Bloom’ leaves you twirling about and playing air guitar with renewed excitement. Interestingly, the bold confidence of a hard-hitting song is matched by calm, soothing, laid-back grooves. Moreover, a grittiness exists in Montanez’s vocals edging the rock tone, but slight vulnerability simultaneously slithers through.

The melody is certainly one to captivate listeners, however, it is the alignment of concept and music that showcases Montanez’s sophistication and innovation. Montanez explains:

“The release seamlessly blends hooky pop and emotionally charged rock… ‘Infinite Bloom’ captures the essence of excitement, weaving a narrative of longing and passion. It’s a sonic adventure that mirrors the pursuit of a muse, an irresistible chase that is both thrilling and elusive.”

Sincere, sophisticated and an earworm, ‘Infinite Bloom’ is one of those songs that stick in your brain, and you suddenly find yourself humming it for days on end. With a chain of releases set for 2024, I am eager to hear more from this captivating artist.
