KellyMarie – Beach Day (2022)
Influenced by the sounds of Ingrid Michaelson, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac and Sarah Jaffe, one can consider KellyMarie to have a bouncy folk-rock sound – and you wouldn’t be wrong. Classified as indie-pop, the US-based singer-songwriter is upbeat and quirky with smooth expressive vocals. Featured on Obscure Sound, Pop Fad Blog, Zone Nights, Roadie Music and various playlists, KellyMarie is turning heads on an international scale. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Beach Day’.
Following her well-received track ‘Exit 17’, KellyMarie adopts a contemporary pop sound interlaced with dream-pop synths and keyboards in ‘Beach Day’. From the first note, she tips you into a sonic swirl of sound where you are left to twirl about with multi-coloured lights flitting past your face. Intriguing, warm and comfortable, she wraps a bubblegum pink gossamer blanket around you with her soulful sounds.
Inspired by her favourite television show The Office, ‘Beach Day’ is written from the perspective of Pam Beasley as she “finds her bravery and shares her feelings about cutting off her engagement for Jim in front of everyone.” One of the more iconic scenes from the ‘Beach Games’ episode, this smooth, soulful single perfectly expresses Pam’s emotions and the beauty of their love. Even if you have not seen The Office, ‘Beach Day’ is a sophisticated representation of the brutal, raw and passionate, um, passion of an “oh hell, why aren’t they together yet” romance.
