KC Star – wanted (2024)

Some children dream of being astronauts, actors, and firemen, and once in an episode of The Sweeney the 9-year-old wanted to be a social worker; all children have dreams and KC Star made his come true. He began by posting covers on his SoundCloud in 2017, the pop and rap tracks gained a viral following and only a few years later he is establishing himself as a pioneer in contemporary pop music. Inspired by the lakes of Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa and Kesha, KC Star dabs different flavours of pop with rock, indie and alternative oddities building an almost inimitable originality.

One aspect I love about KC Star’s repertoire is his showcasing a personal life journey, and we grow with him. His first three EPs, Colors (2019), Changes (2019) and Crushes (2020) explored the rollercoaster of youth, while 2021’s Get There tackled the tumultuous feeling of apathy like life has gone missing. In 2021’s Solo Karaoke, a period of self-discovery and self-growth emerges and BOYS SUCK! explores the aggravated revenge side of heartbreak. A true transformation connecting with audiences on an intimate level. In his new single, ‘wanted’, KC Star explores life with one of his most touching tracks to date.

Following the well-received single ‘lonely love song’, ‘wanted’ chips at the feeling of being unwanted, unloved and undesired. Continuing the theme of disillusion and isolation we hear in ‘lonely love song’, the new single digs deeper into the realm of fragile loneliness. With raw delicacy, KC Star’s haunting whisper is a bold statement of sitting in the background watching everyone around you live a life of love, hope and joy – all you want is a snippet of their bliss; instead, you find yourself in a blanket of invisibility and yearning.

Simplistic with a barebones starkness, KC Star ensnares senses with his rich vocals atop a minimalistic arrangement. Interestingly, while the song is stripped back, the kaleidoscopic rush of music beats in your breast with an almost bursting sensation. Sincere, insightful, profound and skin-tingling, KC Star’s ‘wanted’ embodies every painful emotion you want to ignore, every heavyhearted thought that plagues you at midnight, and everything you are too afraid to bring to light with intense vibrancy – and to think, it’s such a quiet song.
