Kate Prendergast – Lavender Country (2025)
Youthful innocence meets sophisticated maturity – Kate Prendergast embodies these concepts with her folk music flair. 15 years old, the Ireland-based singer-songwriter might be a young ‘un, but she is an “old soul” intricately navigating reality with insatiable melodies. She reached our ears in July 2024 with ‘Past Letters’ and continued to impress with the track ‘Undergrowth’; today, we take a gander at her most recent release ‘Lavender Country’. Following her well-received single ‘Undergrowth’, Prendergast steps into 2025 with the single ‘Lavender County’. Collaborating once again with producer Declan Legge, Prendergast shifts from a heavier indie-folk sound to something lighter, gentle, and soothing in the new single. Embracing the beauty of simplistic acoustic sounds, ‘Lavender County’ is a concoction of acoustic guitars, percussion, drums and piano; however, just as the charming organic simplicity tugs at your heart, a kaleidoscopic twirl of music fills your soul.
For me, the single brims with warmth and comfort in languid tranquillity; however, ‘Lavender Country’ is far more than just a pretty tune. Prendergast’s dulcet vocals slice through the melody with sophisticated ease offering raw vulnerability, as well as intimate solace. Wistful and whimsical, she breathes life in the song making it uplifting; then again, the beautiful execution is filled with profound weightiness.
Just as the melody flutters between laidback charm and lingering fragility, so does the poetic lyricism. Delving into your heart with her fairy-like voice, Prendergast captures insecurity, uncertainty, and all the gritty stuff that causes torment bringing it to the surface. She then takes all this stuff and lays it bare, open to an empowering, optimistic and hopeful reflection. Prendergast explains:

Sincere, sentimental and heartfelt, ‘Lavender County’ is another Prendergast song I’ll have on repeat. I suggest you do the same – trust me, you’ll love it.
