Karyn Ann – Consequence of Fear (2023)

Compared to the likes of Patty Griffin, Amy Winehouse, Carole King and Brandi Carlile, singer-songwriter Karyn Ann brings listeners a sophisticated but gritty sound with her music. Turning heads on an international scale, Karyn Ann has featured in notable publications like American Songwriter, She Makes Music and A&R Factory. While her music captures audiences, her stage presence is as intoxicating. Emotive, raw and powerful, Karyn Ann has shared the stage with artists like Haley Johnson, Fox and Bones, and The Indigo Girls’ Emily Saliers.

A geologist turned musician, Karyn Ann has a confidence that many musicians crave. Similar to Amy Winehouse, there is a soulfulness to her ballads but with a slight grit in the melodies. ‘Consequence of Fear’, however, is an evolution of Karyn Ann’s sound from blues/soul to an indie-rock style. She explains: “I was ripe for change…a failed relationship followed by the pandemic catapulted me into a different state of mind. I experimented with singing styles and production, and wrote a lot of ‘stuff’ that fell under the umbrella of unpredictability.”

Following her Christmas single ‘Yuletide’, ‘Consequence of Fear’ is an elegant combination of guitars, drums and synths but not with a pop vibe. Despite the upbeat, toe-tapping nature of the single, it is dark and filled with raw vulnerability. The poetic lyricism has you twirling about, but haunting obscurity is heard through Karyn Ann’s vocals and powerful guitar riffs.

“’Consequence of Fear’…will get you moving physically and percolate into your inner depths with its candid lyricism and rhythmic hum evoking and reinforcing the feeling of running from uncertainty…this release delves into one’s personal fears.” – Karyn Ann on ‘Consequence of Fear’

Sincere, honest and skin-tingling, Karyn Ann creates a musical masterpiece with her new single.
