Karmic Neighborhood – Everybody Needs To Love (2023)
After life-long music veterans Armand Ruby and Julian Colbeck moved to the same neighbourhood along the California coast, a serendipitous meeting turned into a passionate musical collaboration. The former London-based rockstar (Ruby) and environmental scientist who happened to be a part-time singer-songwriter (Colbeck) bonded over their passion for music and the hopeful life experience of surviving cancer. Finding inspiration in their personal journeys, Ruby and Colbeck came together to form the duo Karmic Neighborhood.
Following their well-received single ‘Where Do I Go Now?’, ‘Everybody Needs To Love’ is the third single from Karmic Neighborhood’s upcoming feature film Equinox The Musical. Shifting from the alternative rock song ‘Where Do I Go Now?’, the lads adopt a softer tone in ‘Everybody Needs To Love’. Tapping into the intimacy of Billy Joel, although Karmic Neighborhood certainly has a moving sound of its own, this single is a piano-driven ballad touching hearts from the first chord.
Removing the “in your face” rock-inspired yearning of previous material, ‘Everybody Needs To Love’ presents a gentler, although just as expressive yearning within the mellifluous arrangement; a tone that perfectly aligns with the theme. In the film, the single is a duet between the Professor (vocals by Armand Ruby) and a café waitress Amy (vocals by Ariel Thiermann). The pair discuss the homeless man sitting outside of the café and while the Professor complains, Amy shares that the man is a war veteran suffering from PTSD and the Professor feels a new sense of sympathy.
Inspired by a similar real-life experience, Karmic Neighborhood captured the truth of people wanting to be loved and needing to be loved in ‘Everybody Needs To Be Loved’. Armand Ruby explains that “this song speaks to the reality of our shared humanity and the possibility that love and compassion can arise within us when we confront the more difficult aspects of the human condition.”
