KARMA – SIS (She’s Something) (2024)

The 90s had girl groups like TLC, Destiny’s Child and Spice Girls all hailing “girl power” and pushing for stronger women. Today, life might be a mess, but girl power is still thriving, and US-based trio KARMA embodies its passion. Drawing together different shifts of RnB, pop and hip hop, KB, Keymah Renee and Miesha Monroe are not to be pigeon-holed. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘SIS (She’s Something)’.

This is my introduction to this group, but they have been turning heads for quite some time. From the 2016 single ‘What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas’ to 2023’s ‘Broke Boy’ and the new single ‘SIS (She’s Something)’, KARMA delve into the intricacies of life with moving melodies. Taken off the five-track EP SIS, ‘SIS (She’s Something)’ is a flush of vintage RnB flecked with hip hop, pop and some reggae clinging to the edges.

Sleek, soft, gentle and soothing, KARMA set you adrift on a shining sonic river with their new single. Considering the calmness of the melody, the warmth of their vocals, and the breathtaking chilled-out vibe, ‘SIS (She’s Something)’ seems a glide through the glassy waters; however, something is lurking beneath. No, it’s not an evil grittiness with dark tragedy – in fact, it is the opposite. A song of empowerment and strength, ‘SIS (She’s Something)’ oozes with a forceful rush of girl power. Yet, this bounce of power is swirled in a harmonic calmness, so things are hard-hitting but simultaneously mellifluous.

Beautiful and elegant with a powerful message, KARMA’s new single is a “celebration of what makes women truly special… a song that resonates across all women, celebrating their strength and roles in society… highlighting unselfish acts that often go unnoticed…” As I mentioned, this is my introduction to KARMA, and I cannot wait to hear more from the talented trio.

In addition to the single, KARMA released a lyric video for ‘SIS (She’s Something)’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
