KARMA – ANTHEM (2025)

Last year, we came across the US-based trio KARMA, and, well, they weren’t your average RnB band that you listen to once and push to the side. No, sir! Standing up with the nostalgic sounds of TLC and Destiny’s Child is a bold, powerful, slightly brash whirlwind of female empowerment and bad-ass attitude. Girl power to the max, KB, Keymah Renee and Miesha MonRoe entwine confident sass with reflective lyrics and raw emotion. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘ANTHEM’.

Recorded and produced by Marcus Saint, Temmora Wills-Levy, and Arthur Levy, ‘ANTHEM’ blends elements of RnB, pop and rap in a kaleidoscopic melody. I’ll admit, as soon as I hit the play button, I found myself bopping along, fighting the desire to stand up and dance, and singing along to the infectious lyrics… well, the bits at the end. A concoction of bold beats, shimmering synths, and interspersed horns – a very intriguing addition – ‘ANTHEM’ is perfect for clubs and festivals; however, just as it gets you swaying from side to side, there is profoundness in the song’s emotionality.

As with previous material, KARMA present a message of empowerment, hope, optimism and resilience in ‘ANTHEM’. The band explains: “I wanted to create something that resonates with people who refuse to settle, who push forward no matter what. ‘ANTHEM’ is for everyone out there making moves and writing their own story.”

The message is significant, no doubt of that, but I believe the feeling behind ‘ANTHEM’ holds greater sway. Weaving themes of motivation and strength with the vibes of RnB, this track brims with warmth – a caressing warmth letting you know things are good and they can only become better because you’re worth it. It’s a foot-stomping rush of “this is me, so move aside” filling your lungs with joy and keeping you there. Yet, as much as the track is hard-hitting and bold, sincerity lingers throughout. A sentimental sincerity in laidback tones oddly complementing softness with force.
