The tender piano line that opens ‘I Didn’t Realise’ pulls you into the emotional soundscape. The piano-driven melody has a twilight feeling to it like the night creeping into the room as you sit and feel the heartbreak of a breakup. There are deeper tones that swell from the low levels of the melody that breathe against the back of your neck. As the song progresses, the deeper strings mournfully hum against the piano while softly pushing you in the direction of light. This is artfully done as you are gently led to healing and accepting what has happened.

Against the delicate piano notes rests Harding’s vocals which are as emotive as the melody. There is a deep feeling of sadness in her performance which perfectly brings the lyrics to life. The emotions woven into her voice send shivers through you as you are inundated with them. Her voice gains power as the single continues while choking up your throat with the wet pain of the breakup. This does let up as the strings swell with her vocals settling something in your chest and breaking through with a gossamer thread of light.
