Kaeley Jade – Beneath the Lies (2022)

Between ‘Poltergeist’ and ‘Ego’, Kaeley Jade wove catchy melodics into playful and deep reflections on relationships and their impact on us. She continues this with her single ‘Beneath the Lies’ which was inspired by a painful and awkward encounter she had with an ex. Looking at the masks people wear and what is hiding beneath them, the single breaks down the walls of white lies that people build and confronts the vulnerability below.

Continuing her exploration of the various facets of relationships, the indie pop style that Jade has crafted is superbly polished in this single. As she taps into the façade people show to others, there is a feeling of late summer sun that shines through the soundscape. The single is also another taster for her upcoming album release expected later this month.

‘Beneath the Lies’ hits you with some serious foot-tapping beats before you know what has really happened. Between the slap on the drums and the strum of the guitar, it is almost impossible to not move some part of your body to the sound. There is a punctuating feeling to the hit of the beats that adds fantastic emphasis to the vocals. As the single heads toward the chorus, a more melodic flow hits, but none of the infectious energy is lost. In fact, it feels like the song grips you harder as you head into the chorus. There is a building feeling to the melody that bursts on the chorus for a layered movement that makes you want to dance around. As the layers merge, they create an explosion of emotion that you can’t help but be swept up in. The rise and fall the melodic movement creates is a lot of fun to ride and makes for a really engaging listening experience.

Jade’s vocals are as infectious as the melody as they enter with a rather matter-of-fact feeling in the opening of the track. Through the opening verse, she lays out some facts that are punctuated and enhanced by the movement of the melody. She lays the foundation of the relationship she reflects on throughout the single. As you head into the chorus, the delivery of her vocals joins the building energy of the music. This is a really catchy consideration of masks and how people hide their true selves when in a relationship. When the chorus hits, you are likely to start singing along because it really is just that catchy.

Foot-tapping, lively and engaging, ‘Beneath the Lies’ by Kaeley Jade has you singing along while reflecting on the masks people wear in relationships. Both the melody and her vocals have a lively energy that gets you hooked to the track. The lyrics consider a relationship and the masks that people hide behind.
