JW Paris – Leave It Alone (2023)

Described by Chris Hawkins (BBC Radio 6) as “where grittiness meets swaggery”, the idea of JW Paris presents as a Saturday Night Fever meets Queen of the Damned musical force – white bellbottoms stained by a dark vampire goth rock insanity. A 90s grunge-inspired trio from the UK, JW Paris has the authority of Stuart Townsend’s goth rock but with the high-paced charm of John Travolta’s disco dancing.

For approximately six years, Gemma Clarke (drums), Danny Collins (vocals and guitar) and Aaron Forde (guitar) have been sharing their heavy-hitting tunes with the masses, and for six years they have been turning heads. With a reputation for energetic, vivacious and intoxicating live shows, JW Paris has performed at several music festivals following a sold-out UK tour in 2022. It is not only the live circuit that garners a following as coverage from various radio stations and publications takes their sound across the globe. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Leave It Alone’.

Following JW Paris’ first EP Stuck In A Video, as well as their cover of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’, ‘Leave It Alone’ is the trio’s first original single release in 2023. Recorded at Buffalo Studios, produced by JB Pilon and mastered by award-winning engineer Cicely Balston, ‘Leave It Alone’ finds the line between grunge and indie-rock with hints of hard rock slivering through the melody. Scorching guitars meet pounding drums on a slippery sonic waterfall sending you plunging into a kaleidoscopic pool of sound.

The melody is intoxicating with its mellifluous but slightly distorted discomforting flow; however, Collins’ vocals add an extra kick to the track. Gritty and grungy, one would consider the lyricism to match the darkness of the melody…and it does. Profound in its poetic intensity, ‘Leave It Alone’ explores human vulnerability and fragility yearning for inner peace, self-acceptance and optimistic freedom.

“’Leave It Alone’ is a deeply personal song that reflects our inner journey of self-discovery and acceptance. With honest lyrics and a haunting melody, it invites our audience and listeners on an introspective exploration of identity and the longing for inner peace.” – JW Paris on ‘Leave It Alone’
