Juno Francis – Oyster Love (2020)

Take a journey deeper into the mind of Juno Francis with their latest EP Oyster Love. Using a wave of synth-pop, this EP takes you through the darker side of romantic views, strolls through the forest and the Berlin lifestyle. A glamourous haze of glitter, drama and psychedelia, the EP is a sonic experience you are unlikely to forget any time soon.

The lovechild of a 60s gentleman and an 80s lady, Juno Francis interacts with your brain on a whole different level. With vocals that melt your heart and melodies that make you weak at the knees, they combine sounds for a push and pull of epic proportions.

The EP starts with ‘Follow the Stars’ which is a dreamy walk through the forest. The light opening complete with bird song set the tone. The vocals have a soothing vibe that makes you think about the peacefulness of a quiet stroll in the woods. There is an expansive feeling to the melody like it could sweep you into a never-ending dreamscape. There are some vibrating tones that make you think something bad might be coming.

The title track ‘Oyster Love’ has an upbeat opening that draws you into the song. The dark pulsing tones set the vibe of the track which looks at the darker side of a romantic world view. Through the lyrics, your attention is drawn to the sacrifices you need to make to chase self-fulfilment. The zinging synths notes meld with the pulsing beat to get you moving to the rhythm. While there is a darkness within this song, it is really engaging and you can’t help but fall into the soundscape.

‘Fight’ has a hazier vibe to the opening almost like a dream that you are just waking from. The swirling tones of the opening add to this feeling. The catchy beat continues with this song as the pulsing tones form a base while the vocals skip along the notes. The vocal performance is engaging and you can’t help but be drawn further and further into the push and pull of the lyrics. There is a feeling of endlessness within this song.

The EP ends with ‘I Wanna Run Away’ which picks up the pace. The frantic line in the opening builds the pace of the song before you are dropped into the vocals. Within the faster pace is a homage to the Berlin lifestyle. The ups and downs are laid out, but there is a sense of happiness with the pace and feel of the lifestyle. This song has a little more 80s than the rest of the EP, but still contains a distinct thread of Juno Francis.

Juno Francis takes you on a voyage through relaxed forests, the Berlin lifestyle, memories and romantic world views in Oyster Love. Each song is a new step in the journey into the mind of Juno Francis and they are all extremely engaging. The combination of themes, melodic elements and styles create an interesting listening experience that you will really enjoy.
