Juniper Avenue – Bumfuzzle (2022)
Juniper Avenue captures the wild swings, unbalanced equilibrium and nonsense that form a fever dream, through their single ‘Bumfuzzle’. With a light touch on world events, the single brings summer vibes to alternative rock sensibilities, while sending you spiralling into a kaleidoscopic world of randomness. Using lyrics that are abstract and jump from one through to another, they fill your senses with their personal take on some old-school styles.
Created over a hectic 5 days in the ASU studio, the single is a blast of fun that brings their alternative rock sound to some power pop. Jeremy Adinolfi (drums), Luke Baker (guitar, vocals), Cody Everest (bass) and Graham Levy (lead guitar) first formed the band in high school through a determination and eagerness to create new music. Drawing on influences that range from jazz band at school to progressive rock and funk.
‘Bumfuzzle’ brings the summer vibes from the first strummed note of the guitar. There is a high-octane energy to the melody that hooks you and gets you moving to the music before you know what has happened. While the music has you bouncing off the walls, there is a frantic feeling that invades your brain, leading you into the fever dream of the single. Throughout the single, the melody doesn’t let up for a second, keeping you bouncing around and rocking out to the flying guitars. The band easily capture you in their alternative rock flows that have been infused with summer heat through some power pop sensibilities. This is a lot of fun to listen to and you are sure to have an absolute blast to the music.
As the energy of the music invades your senses and makes you jump around, Baker’s vocals yell out with exuberance. His performance grabs your hand and yanks you into the tale of the fever dream and the random imagery that comes with this. His delivery is just as engaging as the music, making you want to shout out with him. Through his performance, the kaleidoscopic swirl of fever washes across your brain leading you on tangents that never seem to quite connect with each other. Between the vocals and melody, you are held in place by the single and really never want it to end. As you turn the volume up, the abstract nature of the lyrics replaces your veins with colourful energy.
Juniper Avenue have you bouncing off the walls, turning the volume up and spiralling into a fever dream with the rock sounds of ‘Bumfuzzle’. From the first note, the music injects high-octane energy into your veins that fills you with the need to move. While the lyrics are an abstract spiral into fever, Baker’s vocals are addictive as he pulls you into the song.
