Jun Parker – Dancing In The Dark (2023)

Described by The Beat as a “…trailblazing, innovative and genre-defiant artist”, singer-songwriter Jun Parker is building a reputation as a sonic force of nature. Along with The Beat, Parker is receiving critical acclaim from Rock Era Magazine, Necessary Outlet, Roadie Music, Iggy Magazine, FV Music Blog and Obscure Sound, proving to be a sensation on an international scale. His music is often bilingual reflecting his Japanese and Australian heritages (born in Japan but raised in Australia) and interprets Japanese sentimentalism through modern-day commercial pop music. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Dancing In The Dark’.

On the heels of his track ‘Say Goodbye’, Jun Parker adopts a synth-driven electropop stance with ‘Dancing In The Dark’. While the single has a contemporary pop tone through the melody, a nostalgic slant to old-school synth-pop is heard. Comparable to the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and the richness of Spandau Ballet, ‘Dancing In The Dark’ is refreshing but with a heart-warming familiarity.

Recorded in Tokyo, Japan, with synth-pop producer Seiki Sato, ‘Dancing In The Dark’ is Jun Parker’s first exclusively English song taking the listener on a mind-bending journey. Parker explains that ‘Dancing In The Dark’ is “cosmic pop meets Greek philosophy” as it traipses around Plato’s allegory of the cave with the truth of reality hidden from you. Parker further explains that “shadows are cast on the wall and we are made to believe the shadows to be the truth. In the mind of the protagonist, the gimmick is becoming unravelled…the reality vs illusions, love vs seeking the truth of reality…”

Surreal and introspective, Jun Parker intoxicates listeners with his synth-pop single ‘Dancing In The Dark’.
