Juliet Callahan – Depth of Soul (2023)
Connecting with audiences on an intimate and personal level, singer-songwriter Juliet Callahan is known for her tender melodies. Willing to put herself out there, so to say, there is an intensity in her songs which resonate in the heart of listeners across the globe. This is my introduction to Juliet Callahan, but she is already turning heads far beyond her North American borders with coverage from Rock Era Magazine, Mystic Sons, Music For All, Less Than 1000 Followers, TJPL News and various others. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Depth of Soul’.
Following her well-received tracks ‘Spotlight’ and ‘Ghost Girl’, ‘Depth of Soul’ is Callahan’s first release in 2023. Blasting through our speakers with hard-hitting alternative rock but a commercial pop slant, Juliet Callahan finds the line between genres in ‘Depth of Soul’. Hard-hitting guitars meet pounding drums in the moving melody; however, her gentle vocals seem to teeter on the precipice of pop and rock.
While the powerful melody seems to knock you between the eyes into a sonic whirlpool with kaleidoscopic lights flitting about you, it is the incorporation of Callahan’s ethereal voice that intrigues me. As if a nymph traipsing a coursing river, she adds a sense of femininity with the sprinkling tones. Yet, while this gentleness captivates you from the get-go, ‘Depth of Soul’ plummets to a soul-stirring rock and Callahan taps into her inner Evanescence descending into the melody with a haunting darkness.
Gothic in a way, there is a vulnerability amidst the darkness in ‘Depth of Soul’ as Callahan once again connects with listeners in an intimate way. Touching on the profound topic of self-discovery, she reflects on herself as a person in ‘Depth of Soul’.
“While writing this track I tapped into my deepest emotions that I believe to be connected with what I can my ‘higher self’…the purest version of myself or my real self where I am removed from all negative energies…this song symbolises the change I made in myself to fully align with who I was deep down in my heart and soul, which is an artist. My chorus lyricism symbolises this change I made within…that I am going to be who I am no matter what anyone tells me…” – Juliet Callahan on ‘Depth of Soul’
