Judy Granville – HOLD ON (2023)

Judy Granville is the personification of the saying “life begins at 60”. One of the rare musicians to pick up a guitar and release original material after age 60, UK-based singer-songwriter Granville brings a unique blend of folk, rock and grunge to the masses. Featured on The Music Revolution, RGM, Rock Charts News, Edgar Allan Poets, Rising Artists Music Blog, European Indie Music Network, iHeart Radio, and various playlists, Judy Granville is reaching audiences on an international scale. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘HOLD ON’.

Following her well-received single ‘I’LL SURVIVE’, Granville adopts an old-school rock rhythm with ‘HOLD ON’. Comparable to Stevie Nicks with a tinge of Amanda Palmer and Alanis Morrissette, Granville’s vocals add obscurity to not only ‘HOLD ON’ but most of her music. Eclectic and experimental, this songstress uses a simplistic approach with barebones melodies; however, while the track appears stripped down it retains a kaleidoscopic quality to the songs.

Recorded with veteran musicians Jed Cutler (lead guitar), Chris Hookway (bass), and Theseus Gerard (drums and percussion), ‘HOLD ON’ is bold, brash and hits you between the eyes with its oddness. A foot-stomping sensation comes across in the song’s rhythm adding a steadiness to ‘HOLD ON’; but it also contains a slightly disconcerting strangeness in the brew. The thing is, while it is strange, obscure, discomforting and a bit distorted in its acoustic-ness, Granville brings it all together in an elegant harmonic way proving herself a masterful musician.

In addition to the single, Judy Granville released a music video for ‘HOLD ON’. You can view the video below or on her official YouTube channel:
