Judy Granville – BE STILL AND WAIT (2024)

Proving that age is merely a number, singer-songwriter Judy Granville is of the rare breed of musicians who begin making music later in life. While Granville might be on many people’s radars for the reason of the “late start”, she is more than a number. Traversing various flavours of rock from folk-rock ‘Hide Away’ to punk-rock single ‘I’LL SURVIVE’, the UK-based artist is a swirl of courage, positivity and hope in a jovial sonic wrapper. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘BE STILL AND WAIT’.

Following her well-received single ‘HOLD ON’ – an empowering song inspiring optimism in an uncertain reality – ‘BE STILL AND WAIT’ is a quirky blend of pop-rock, indie-rock and folk with reggae undertones. Recorded and produced at Homeward Studios with Simon James, Granville’s guitar slips alongside Theseus Gerard’s guitar and drums with Chris Hookey’s bold bass inserting a soul-tinged aspect to the single.

Eclectic and experimental to say the least, ‘BE STILL AND WAIT’ is a melting pot of sound elegantly fusing in a mellifluous tune; however, just as there is a harmonic flow in the arrangement, a distinctive disconnect exists offering each instrument individuality within the symphonic union. On one hand, the bass has a steadfast beat building a strong foundation on which to tread, but the electric guitar slices across with kaleidoscopic forcefulness. For me, it is Granville’s vocals that bind the song and give ‘BE STILL AND WAIT’ a further sense of profoundness and quirkiness with a spoken word narrative. Granville explains:

“’BE STILL AND WAIT’ is a musical fable taking us on a metaphorical walk in the mountains, while at the same time pondering on a time of confusion and uncertainty. Low-lying clouds descend and we are lost, but through the cloud appears a misty figure who offers advice…”

In addition to the single, Judy Granville released an official music video for ‘BE STILL AND WAIT’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel.
