Bringing together funk, disco, pop and indie-rock with dazzling nostalgic flair, singer-songwriter Josh Long has a sound that is utterly inimitable. Hailing from California, the US-based musician translates topical themes through music making them accessible, enjoyable and more relatable to audiences. Following his well-received single ‘Love In You’, Josh Long blasts into the new year with ‘Tidal Wave’. Unlike his previous material, ‘Tidal Wave’ has a more sophisticated indie-rock sound tinged by old-school indie-folk tones. Is this an evolution of Long’s style experimenting with heavier, harder-hitting melodies or is it just a brief lapse into something more diverse? Either way, the more rock-inspired style highlights Long’s diversity and eclecticism as an artist.
Influenced by musicians like Tom Petty, The Eagles, Lenny Kravitz, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Long brings a retro-rock vibe to listeners in ‘Tidal Wave’. His dulcet tones slide atop the harmonic melody, but there is a brash boldness that seems to cut you to the quick. I am particularly impressed by the guitar solo reminiscent of Lenny Kravitz. Yet, despite the similarity to artists like Tom Petty and Kravitz, Josh Long retains a uniqueness that is entirely his own. When discussing ‘Tidal Wave’, Long explains that it “is the perfect encapsulation of me as a songwriter.
