Josh Holmes – Picture Perfect (2021)
If you enjoy the sounds of Shawn Mendes, James TW and The Script, the chances are you will love Josh Holmes. A talented industry professional based in the UK, Holmes has always wanted to pursue a solo career in addition to artist management. Only three songs in, he is still a new singer-songwriter but his music is being well-received. Featured on Fruit Sonic, iHeart Radio, BBC Introducing, Our Sound Music and various other press, Holmes is building a loyal following. The latest addition to his discography is ‘Picture Perfect’.
Following his sophomore single ‘Can’t Stop Thinking Of You’ (read our review here), Holmes returns with the pop-inspired acoustic single ‘Picture Perfect’. Touching on the idea of a “picture perfect” life, the new single carries you away from cruel reality to an idealistic existence. With the melodic piano and charming string section, the tone is soothing and smooth. However, there is a distinct wistfulness in both instrumentation and vocals that makes ‘Picture Perfect’ haunting.
Holmes has a tendency to explore personal emotions and experiences in his songs. ‘Can’t Stop Thinking Of You’ looked at the confusion of wanting to be with someone, and ‘Picture Perfect’ continues this sentimental dynamic. Using a personal narrative, he connects with listeners on an intimate level; plus, the intimacy is enhanced by the barebones structure of the track. The simplicity and rawness of the track showcase Holmes’ depth of character and innovativeness as an artist.
In addition to the single, Josh Holmes released an official music video for ‘Picture Perfect’. I was unable to watch the video as it contains strobe lighting effects and rapid image transitions that can cause seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
