Joris Bon – Gleam (2024)

For musician Joris Bon, composing a melody is like splashing paint across a blank canvas. Finding the line between electronic and classical piano, the French artist captures the core of two different worlds and merges them in an eclectic road for diverse audiences. Interestingly, while Joris Bon meshes the contemporary and classical world of pop, his passion for music sees him explore various genres such as jazz, metal, rock and blues. We were introduced to Bon last year with his single ‘Realist’ – a song that astounded our ears and had our hearts soaring. Today, we delve once again into Joris Bon’s discography discovering his single ‘Gleam’.

Following the well-received song ‘Realist’, the critically acclaimed artist dazzles listeners with his singles ‘Gleam’ and ‘Nature of Tree’. The first release in 2024, ‘Gleam’ steps away from a purely instrumental piece to incorporate the moving vocals of Clara Boffy. Slipping into a cinematic avant-garde sound, Boffy’s obscure voice guides you through a rollercoaster of music in a hazy off-kilter tone. As with the music, her husky vocals are whimsical and wistful oozing an airy sensation; however, darkness lies beneath the skin-chilling tones.

I could listen to Boffy all day long, whether it be a sensual ballad or a creepy poem, but Joris Bon is the master behind this masterpiece. Pushing the vocals to gleam, his electronic piano flutters beneath with a soothing charm. Yet, the hazy whisper of sound is bound by classical precision elegantly intertwining modern-day pop into symphonic harmonies. As with Boffy, the rise and lilt create an ebb and flow in the melody hiding haunting darkness within a light breath of music.

Showcasing his talent as both a composer and singer-songwriter, Joris Bon illustrates his mastery of all musical aspects in ‘Gleam’. When speaking about ‘Gleam’, he explained:

“I wrote the lyrics same as I play the melody on the piano. I wrote this song as an electro ballad, wanted a unifying song. When I started the melody, I wanted an emotional song that could invite and immerse listeners to the power of a storm or sunset, music sounds, nature and mountains, and voices.”
