Jordan Red – Cast A Flame (2020)
After releasing their debut single only a few weeks ago, Jordan Red has graced us with yet another piece. ‘Cast a Flame’ was generously available for a free, early download to anyone who signed up for the band’s newsletter on their website. The song has yet to hit their Spotify alongside their previous and first, ‘Beautiful Monsters’, but with any hope, we’ll be able to add it to our playlists there soon.
Based out of London, England, Dan Leigh (frontman) and Dan Baker (guitarist) have been working hard to bring us these songs via Longwave Studios – a production studio based out of Cardiff, Wales. Here they have been able to work amongst the great mind (and owner of the studio) Romesh Dodangoda, who has been mixing and producing for a number of years and has assisted in the creation of a multitude of albums with popular artists of a similar genre, such as Bullet For My Valentine, Kids In Glass Houses, Attack! Attack!, Motorhead, and Bring Me the Horizon – most notably their grammy-winning album, Amo.
‘Cast a Flame’ hits hard from the beginning. Lyrically, it remains just as poetic as I would expect having heard their former music. With a little thought, it is fairly easy to understand that the song pushes the idea of loss of control. This relatable theme is something that everyone experiences and no one finds comfortable. It instils a sense of paranoia, chaos, and the kind of panic to regain that control that makes us all anxious at the very thought. We’re given a very melodic intro this time and then thrown off (in the best possible way) with the familiar, impressive instrumentals that Baker has yet to disappoint with. This somewhat jarring shock of mood change is what, right away, causes you to stop whatever it is you’re doing just to listen. Again, Jordan Red has been able to successfully dive into their sound, coming away with something that both holds a similar vibe to their first song and simultaneously delivers a slightly different element. It is being made clear from the beginning that this band will be a force to reckon with, and that we should be expecting anything but monotonous from them.
‘Beautiful Monsters’ and ‘Cast a Flame’ are only cuts off a much larger project that is currently in development over at Longwave Studios. That’s right – expect more to come up over the next few months because the upcoming album Hands That Built The World is on its way, and we’re all eagerly awaiting.
