John Leslie Hulcombe – Cosmic Echoes (2022)

Since his debut single ‘Town of Love’, released in 2020, singer-songwriter John Leslie Hulcombe has been building a loyal following across the globe. With the help of extensive global radio coverage, positive reviews and overall love of his style, Hulcombe is turning heads (including ours!). The latest addition to his well-received discography is the single ‘Cosmic Echoes’.

Described by Roadie Music as a “…fascination in sight and sound…”, John Leslie Hulcombe really oozes originality in his work – and this is highly evident in his single ‘Cosmic Echoes’. An instrumental take on his popular ballad ‘Sanctuary’, ‘Cosmic Echoes’ is a collaboration of notable artists all coming together to create something intoxicating. Featuring world-class musicians such as Peter Koppes (best known for his association with The Church) and percussionist Jackie Barnes (associated with James Barnes), the new single is an eclectic swoon of intoxicating melodies.

Intimate and intriguing, John Leslie Hulcombe delved into his emotive stories with ‘Sanctuary’. Sentimental, soothing and slightly ethereal, he captured our attention in ‘Sanctuary’ and continues to captivate us with the surreal instrumental remix ‘Cosmic Echoes’. From the opening hush to the powerful movement with hard-hitting guitars, then the intriguing ending, ‘Cosmic Echoes’ is a smooth, flowing, poetic five-and-a-half minutes of music. What I find particularly intriguing is the combination of electric guitars, drums and interspersed piano melding into a soothing track. It is as if the group is trying to find the delicate line between organic and synthetic – and they found it.

I am not one to review or even listen to instrumental songs, but ‘Cosmic Echoes’ is something I could have on repeat. It soothes any feelings of anxiety, sends your soul soaring and leaves you breathless in its eclectic melody. I cannot wait for more from John Leslie Hulcombe.
