Joe Cic – Jack (2024)
Riding on the wave of inspiration and intuition, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Cic creates melodies without any pretensions – “just Joe, sharing my music with the world”. A decade ago, the Italy-based musician started “taking…music seriously” honing his skills using a laidback, go-with-the-flow foundation. Yet, while there is a sense of just go with it in his music, Joe Cic captures profound themes in a sonic embrace. This is our introduction to him, but he has gained global recognition with features on international radio stations, publications and playlists. Igniting a passion for music in our breasts, Cic releases his new single ‘Jack’.
Following the well-received singles ‘Sono un cannabinoide’ and ‘Maryloo’, Cic shifts from indie-rock to a blend of Gypsy-rock and folk in ‘Jack’. A song to be experienced and not merely heard, listening to ‘Jack’ is a sonic whirlwind brimming with a kaleidoscopic swirl of instruments. From the acoustic guitar and percussion to the underlying strings, each element contributes to the blur of light rushing past your ears. Yet, while the instruments flood together in a harmonic symphony, the strings, guitar and drums demand attention with well-layered production. For me, the outstanding factor is Joe Cic’s signature vocals – husky, rugged and rough but with rich warmth in the dulcet tones.
Reminiscent of Leonard Cohen, Joe Cic’s distinctive voice brings intimate comfort through poetic lyricism; however, the pulsating beats enhance profoundness regardless of the bright melody. Penned by Cic and recorded in Rome with, as Cic shares, “a friend who not only is an amazing musician but is able to take the best out of yourself in any given circumstances”, ‘Jack’ is one track off his upcoming album. Cic explains:
“Each song is a photograph of the moment I was living at the time, I wasn’t thinking too much about styles, but I was just going with the flow that made this moment magic for me… The song ‘Jack’ is about a man with a hole in his soul, he has been wounded by love and now he doesn’t believe in anything anymore.”
