Joe & the Anchor – Wait on Me (2021)

Healing doesn’t happen over night and we need to take the time for healing to occur. This is something that Joe & the Anchor look to encourage in with their single ‘Wait on Me’. While calling for us to trust in the healing process, they also remind us that there is light at the end of the tunnel regardless of how dark the days might seem.

This uplifting message comes from Joakim, Robin, Viktor and Ruben who have been friends for a long time. They started playing together as Joe & the Anchor around five years ago exploring different genres. Now with a style that is passionately driven, they use strong melodies and dream-pop tones to drive their message home.

‘Wait on Me’ breathes to life with a dreamy synth swell that drops for deep beats that are reminiscent of heartbeats. There is a neon feeling to the melody that pulses through your brain. There are a number of layers to the melody that overlap forming a strong musical flow. The wooden tones click against your ears while the dreamy vibes of the synths have you floating to them. There is a lot packed into the melody making it really attractive.

The vocals slide against the deep beats with a high tone that is a wonderful counter to the melody at the start. The harmonisations on the chorus match the depth of the melody for a lush soundscape. While the music and vocals have you floating to their neon flow, the lyrics move through some interesting emotions. When the single starts, you are drawn into the start of falling in love. This leads to a pause and an understanding that healing needs to happen before the relationship can start. The messaging of the track is beautifully crafted and woven into the music with a sense of knowing yourself and what your needs are.

Joe & the Anchor remind us that we need to heal to move on through the dreamy and neon vibe of ‘Wait on Me’. The melody creates this wonderful synth-driven soundscape that you float in as the vocals and lyrics sink into you. The message of the track has been artfully woven into the lyrics as they use the narrative to help us understand that healing takes time and is worth the wait.
