JIVA – Haim (2021)
JIVA is combining a range of styles and tones to create the rather epic tones of ‘Haim’. Reflecting on the magic in the world that we often miss, they bring forth the connection between inner experiences and outer actions. With a touch of trip-hop added to a wash of darkwave and electronic tones, he draws listeners to an understanding of life and their place in it.
Influenced by an expression from Mark Twain about the two most important days in your life, JIVA uses Hebrew lyrics to bring a distinctive and instinctual message across. The single continues the combining of Jiva Taranenko and Dmitry Dubrov’s musical styles and understanding of life. After meeting at a music festival, the duo felt the drive to join forces and put Taranenko’s lyrics and vocals to Dubrov’s music.
The light tones that open ‘Haim’ are delicate like raindrops dripping from leaves. The piano-driven melody creates a river of sound that you sink into as it flows down the soundscape. There is a gentle layer of strings that hover over the piano line that brings an almost ambient feeling to the melody. The overall delicacy of the melody is beautiful as it brings you to a thrust of rock tones. The change in the music is amazing and sweeps through you with the power of the sound. While the rock tones sweep through the soundscape, the delicate tones of the opening remain and weave between the beats. Every element of the single comes together for an exquisite melodic movement.
Taranenko’s vocals breathe into the soundscape like mist swirling over the delicate river of sound. Her voice is touching and you don’t need to understand what she is saying to feel the tender vibes of the track. Her haunting high notes send shivers through you before her voice soars and dances around the rock tones of the melody. There is a dynamic movement to her performance as she moves from delicate whispers to haunting rises and deep-reaching flows that sink into your skin.
