Jewelia – The Best We Can (2022)

Reminiscent of Kate Bush and Björk with the intimate intensity of Joni Mitchell and smooth flow of Lizzy McAlpine, UK-based singer-songwriter Jewelia can send chills down your spine with her distinctive sound. Filled with acoustic folk rawness and tinges of charming pop, this Romanian-born songstress is turning heads across the globe. Along with our reviews of Jewelia (‘No Lover‘ and ‘Millenial‘), she is also receiving coverage from Clout, Loud Women, Sinusoidal Music, Music For All, Get In The Ears, PopFad Blog, and numerous radio stations like BBC 1 and Amazing Radio. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘The Best We Can’.

Following her track ‘The Comfort Of Falling’, Jewelia takes up her heart-warming folk tones once again in ‘The Best We Can’. An acoustic single, ‘The Best We Can’ showcases what power a mere guitar, piano and vocal arrangement can have – no need for those “bells and whistles”. Weaving her dulcet tones into the mellifluous melody, Jewelia creates a shining sonic tapestry vibrating the pure joy of folk music.

Along with the moving melody, Jewelia brings a powerful, poignant message to listeners in her single. With her natural talent as a storyteller, the new song shares her “fond childhood memories and adulthood endeavour”. Inspired by life in its entirety, Jewelia’s music feeds off human experiences, particularly her own, as she connects with audiences on an intimate level. Not necessarily a vulnerable track, ‘The Best We Can’ has an innocent naivety to the raw melody and open lyricism.

So, what can I say about ‘The Best We Can’? Truthfully, it is just another triumph from the talented Jewelia. I have only one criticism: it is far too short! I highly recommend listening to this single and cannot wait for more from Jewelia in 2023.
